Winter is becoming spring

Spring catkins are busting out all over...
Here's a quick little video of a moment this past Saturday afternoon
at the creek crossing where my daily walk about begins.
Serenaded by the red winged blackbirds.

and some pics along the way.  Glorious sunny days.

'Our' coyote family

March 17th ~ our resident family of coyotes came out together on a weekend hunt.
They are fairly distant in these pics ~ down the other end of our hay fields ~ but they were quite obviously having some success.  They look very healthy which is great ~ it must have been a good winter for them.

Many mornings in the wee hours  ~ on the cold air ~ we hear them calling to each other.

Late winter days

Sunshine and the promise of spring.

Some photos from my afternoon walkabouts. . .  We have almost 2 miles of beautiful walking trail around our property, framed all the way by our "amazing stacked log zigzag fence" :)  Such a wonderful thing. How fortunate we are.

And one of our most welcome harbingers of spring … we normally only see one meadowlark a year…  ~ so we are keeping our eyes out.  Soon we think!

Winter sunset on the plateau

David has a passion for painted skies and loves to take photographs.
These photos from a late January evening.  Enjoy!

"Softly the evening came. The sun from the western horizon
Like a magician extended his golden wand o'er the landscape;
Twinkling vapors arose; and sky and water and forest
Seemed all on fire at the touch, and melted and mingled together."

-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow  Evangeline (pt. II, sec. II)
