Reddy

Critter alert, Saturday morning March 1st. Red Fox on the meadow.
With David behind the camera and Vince and I passing the binoculars back and forth, the three of us watched and marveled at the patience and skill of this beautiful mouse hunter.

Spring songs

We carry walkie-talkies (no cell phone service out here). It's a 50 acre property and we are a long way from civilization. It's important to be able to be in touch with one another. Aside from the safety and convenience; our walkie-talkies are great when one of us has spotted a moose on the meadow or a coyote on the creek. On February 27th, it was an almost simultaneous pressing of our call buttons as the three of us either heard or saw the first blackbird of 2008. Our first beautiful red-winged blackbird. He spent 5 days here on his own; calling to his mates and visiting the feeder outside the kitchen window. Today, the second singer arrived. Soon we should have 20 or more, adorning their favourite old willow tree and singing their springtime song.

Moose on the meadow

Our wonderful winter critters; this cow and calf are regulars on the meadow. They sleep close by the house just across the creek and are very comfortable with our comings and goings. (Just as an aside, all the photos on our blogs can be viewed in a much larger format by clicking on the image.) Enjoy!

Happy New Year from the meadow

We wish you a very happy New Year! Here are just a few pics from the last days of 2007.
Sitting at our kitchen table having breakfast the other day, Vinny spotted an owl across the creek. David grabbed his camera in time to catch the owl swooping down into the snow after it's prey. It was quite a sight ~ these are just a few pics in the series. Enjoy! We all have our proverbial 'eye's peeled' these days. Always on the lookout for wildlife on the meadow.
Vinny has just started a blog of his own too. It's called Coyote Crossing. Enjoy and see you soon again.
